What Time Is ‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2 Finale Tonight? How To Watch

After an intense and controversial second season of The Last of Us, HBO’s hit post-apocalyptic series is airing its Season 2 finale tonight, May 25. Read on to learn what time the final episode starts, how to watch, and more details about the highly anticipated episode.

Season 2 has been a rollercoaster of emotions for viewers, especially after the show followed through on a major plot point from the video game by killing off Joel (Pedro Pascal). Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who was forced to watch her father figure get beaten and stabbed to death, is on a path of revenge to track down Abby – the woman who killed Joel after he killed her father, a Firefly surgeon, at the end of Season 1.

With the help of Dina (Isabela Merced), Ellie heads to Seattle to track down Abby and her team after learning they’re part of a militant paramilitary organization called the Washington Liberation Front (also known as the WLF or “wolves”). The WLF is currently at war with the Seraphites (or “Scars”), a religious cult that emerged after the Cordyceps outbreak. After the WLF overthrew FEDRA and took control of Seattle, the Scars became increasingly brutal and adopted questionable practices (which Ellie and Dina witnessed firsthand in Episodes 4 and 5).

After lots of close calls with the infected and WLF soldiers, in Season 2, Episode 5, Ellie and Dina get a breakthrough after stealing a WLF radio and tracking down the location of Nora. On a hospital level engulfed in Cordyceps spores, Ellie brutally beats Nora for information about Abby’s whereabouts.

Last week’s penultimate episode was a flashback to Joel and Ellie’s past few years in Jackson, revealing what happened between them as their relationship grew more strained before his death. The episode also shed light on why Joel shot Eugene. Now, Episode 7 will return to the present timeline.

Will Ellie finally reach Abby and get revenge for Joel’s death? Here’s what to know about watching the finale, Season 2, Episode 7, “Convergence,” live.

What Will The The Last Of Us Season 2 Finale Be About?

The Last of Us Season 2 finale will pick up after Season 2, Episode 5, when Ellie tortured Nora for information about Abby’s location. Ellie found Nora at the end of the hallway on B2, the level of the hospital where deadly spores filled the air. Initially, Nora believes Ellie sabotaged them and they’re both going to die.

“We’re breathing spores. We’re infected,” she tells Ellie. “You killed us both.” Ellie blankly responds, “Did I?”

However, after a few seconds, Nora realizes who Ellie really is. “You’re her. The immune girl… you’re real,” she says. “Don’t you know what he [Joel] did?” Ellie makes it clear that she doesn’t care what Joel did or didn’t do. Ellie asks Nora again where Abby is, and when she refuses, Ellie picks up a pipe and beats her with it.

Like in the video game, viewers don’t see Ellie kill Nora in the HBO series. However, it’s later revealed that Ellie did kill Nora to get her to reveal Abby’s location, an act that sends Ramsey’s character further down a path of violence and guilt.

Ellie will likely take the information back to Dina, Jesse and Tommy to coordinate their next move toward finding Abby. (By the end of Episode 5, it’s revealed that Jesse and Tommy are also in Seattle after traveling there upon learning that Ellie and Dina had left.) Jesse rescues Dina and Ellie from zombies and the WLF army. He suggests they return to the theater before meeting up with Tommy, and that’s likely where Ellie is headed next.

When was asked by W Magazine how fans will feel about the finale, Ramsey answered that the question of “who’s the hero and who’s the villain” is amplified in the final episode of Season 2.

“And whether it’s even as clear-cut as that, what lengths grief and revenge can take you to, and the morality of who is right and justified in their actions. It’s complicated. The finale leans into that moral conflict,” they continued.

The Last of Us Season 2 is streaming on Max.
