Lawyers for arrested pro-Palestinian activist and former Columbia University graduate student Mahmoud Khalil will give remarks following Wednesday’s high-profile court hearing.
Khalil, who has a green card, was apprehended earlier this month due to his activities in leading Columbia campus protests against the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza at the university last spring. The arrest marked a significant escalation in President Trump’s immigration crackdown, with a lawful permanent resident being held in U.S. custody by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
The hearing, which largely focused on First Amendment protections, came a day after a group of 14 Democrats signed a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem urging the administration to release the activist.
Attorneys from the Center for Constitutional Rights, which is representing Khalil, will hold a news conference following the hearing.
