Apple has unwrapped the new iPhone 16e, providing a big step up for the budget-friendly iPhone.
The iPhone 16e Features Apple Intelligence and a 48MP Camera
Previously known as the iPhone SE, the upgraded iPhone 16e features the A18 chip, the same processor found in all the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models. With that chip, and upgraded RAM, the phone can use all Apple Intelligence features like ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, and more.
Another popular part of any smartphone, the camera, is also substantially improved compared to the previous generation. A 48MP camera features an integrated 2x Telephoto Lens. You can also take 4K videos with Dolby Vision at up to 60fps.
Apple says the iPhone 16e battery lasts for more than 12 hours longer than all previous iPhone SE models. It also features a USB-C port for charging.
Another big addition is the Action Button. Along with one-touch access to a wide variety of Shortcuts, the button can access another Apple Intelligence feature—Visual Intelligence. The Action Button is one of the most underrated features of modern iPhones and can be highly customized to fit into daily workflows.
You can also make use of free satellite communication features on the iPhone 16e to send messages, connect with emergency services, and more when outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. While the 6.1-inch iPhone has many modern features, it still uses the same notch system as older models for Face ID.
The iPhone 16e starts at $599 for the 128GB model. There is also a 256GB or 512GB edition available. You can choose from a matte black or white version. Pre-orders for the phone start on Friday, February 21 from Apple’s site, with shipments officially arriving one week later.
An Excellent iPhone Value
If you’re looking for a modern iPhone without having to spend a lot out of pocket, the iPhone 16e is a great value.
Compared to the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16e holds up well, providing many of the same features for $200 less. While the Apple Intelligence roll out has had its share of problems, Apple is focusing on making the AI-powered feature set better in the future with additional software updates.
