Live updates: Trump takes stage to deliver remarks at CPAC

President Trump on Saturday is about to deliver the closing speech of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Md., an appearance that comes just over a month into his new term.

The president has already sparked controversy with a flurry of early moves, including the gutting of USAID and mass layoffs across the federal government, as well his escalating criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

His appearance comes after his close ally, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, appeared on the CPAC stage Thursday wielding a chainsaw and defending his efforts to downsize the federal bureaucracy.

Vice President Vance, who gave a speech to the conference earlier this week, almost emerged the clear favorite to be Trump’s successor in CPAC’s annual straw poll Saturday. He nabbed around 61 percent of the vote.
