Eagles vs. Cowboys on NBC will open 2025 NFL season

The first game of the 2025 NFL season will be held in Philadelphia on Thursday, Sept. 4 as the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles will host the Dallas Cowboys on NBC. Mike Tirico made the announcement Monday morning on “TODAY.”

Philadelphia won its second Super Bowl last February in a dominant 40-22 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was named MVP after throwing for 221 yards with two scores and an interception to go along with 72 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Eagles lost some key contributors this offseason including offensive lineman Mekhi Becton (signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency) and linebacker Josh Sweat (Arizona Cardinals) but also signed All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun to a new three-year deal and also extended superstar running back Saquon Barkley.

Philadelphia drafted Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the 31st overall selection in the NFL draft.

Dallas, the most valuable franchise in the league according to CNBC, is coming off a disappointing 7-10 season and third-place finish in the NFC East. Quarterback Dak Prescott will return after an injury-plagued year and have some additional playmakers to work with.

The Cowboys traded for former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens to complement star wideout CeeDee Lamb and also signed running back Javonte Williams from the Broncos.

The entire NFL season will be unveiled Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
