Dozens of Ready-to-Eat Foods Recalled in Connection to Listeria Outbreak

The Food and Drug Administration has tracked down the source of a Listeria outbreak: ready-to-eat foods.

On Saturday, Fresh & Ready Foods voluntarily recalled 86 ready-made sandwiches, snacks, and pastas, sold in four states, that may be contaminated with Listeria, bacteria that can cause serious foodborne illness.

To date, the outbreak has sickened 10 people, who were all hospitalized, in California and Nevada.

Check your fridge for these foods. If you have them, throw them away and monitor for signs of Listeria infection.

The recalled ready-to-eat foods, or products that don’t need additional cooking, were sold under three brands:

Fresh & Ready Foods
City Point Market Fresh Food to Go
Fresh Take Crave Away

The recall includes 86 different sandwiches, snack boxes, and pastas with use-by dates between April 22, 2025, and May 19, 2025. You can see the full list of products on the FDA’s website.

The recalled products were sold at a variety of retailers—including hospitals, hotels, convenience stores, airports, and airlines—across four states:

Arizona
California
Nevada
Washington

To date, illnesses in connection to the recalled foods have only been reported in California and Nevada.

The ready-made foods were linked to a Listeria outbreak that dates back to late 2023.

Between December 2023 and September 2024, 10 people became ill and were hospitalized with Listeria infections. At the time, the FDA did not have enough evidence to identify the source of the outbreak.

In April 2025, the FDA reopened the investigation after finding Listeria in samples collected from Fresh & Ready Foods during a routine inspection. Testing confirmed that the Listeria found at Fresh & Ready Foods matched the strain that caused the outbreak.

While no illnesses have been reported in connection to the specific recalled foods, Fresh & Ready Foods still recalled the 86 items as a “precautionary measure” since they may be contaminated with Listeria, the company said in a press release.

The FDA is urging consumers not to eat the recalled products. If you find one of the recalled items in your fridge:

Throw it away.
Clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers it touched.
Monitor for symptoms of Listeria infection.

Common symptoms of Listeria infection include:

Fever
Muscle aches
Tiredness
Headache
Stiff neck
Confusion
Loss of balance
Convulsions
