Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is making major leadership changes in an effort to improve Siri, its underperforming voice assistant, according to a Bloomberg report.
Mike Rockwell, who previously led the Vision Pro team, will now oversee Siri’s development, reporting directly to software chief Craig Federighi. His former role will be filled by Paul Meade, who previously managed Vision Pro’s hardware engineering.
As part of the shake-up, John Giannandrea, Apple’s SVP of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, will no longer oversee Siri. Giannandrea, who joined Apple from Google ( GOOG) in 2018 to boost its AI efforts, will shift his focus to research, testing, and Apple’s robotics team.
The restructuring follows an offsite executive meeting led by CEO Tim Cook, where Siri’s struggles were a key topic. Siri’s former lead, Robby Walker, reportedly called the delays ugly in a recent staff meeting.
Apple recently acknowledged that a more personalized version of Siri, showcased at last year’s WWDC, will be delayed beyond its original rollout timeline.
Employees will be informed of the changes this week, but Apple has not publicly announced them yet.
