Android Auto 13.9 update is now widely available

After launching in beta a few weeks ago, Google has made the Android Auto 13.9 update widely available to all users.

Google rolls out new Android Auto app updates every few weeks, first in a beta program, then to the general userbase. However, these updates can often take several days or even a couple of weeks to be widely available. That’s what happened with the latest Android Auto 13.9 update, which started to hit the stable track earlier this month, but only became widely available to all users earlier this week.

Android Auto 13.9 is, as we reported in late February, a fairly minor update, even by Android Auto’s standards.

There are not many user-facing changes in the update, besides Google continuing to make tweaks to various parts of the app to reflect that Android Auto is no longer just used on cars, but on a variety of different vehicles. Throughout the experience, you might find that the word “car” has been swapped with “vehicle,” a change Google started making as early as January of this year in prior updates.

Beyond that, you can expect some assorted bug fixes in this latest patch, though Google rarely directly addresses what ongoing bugs are fixed in an Android Auto app update. Some ongoing issues at the moment include a scrolling issue in media apps, a reboot issue caused by some obscure developer settings, and wireless connectivity hiccups, among other things. Google is also actively working on bringing support for new games on Android Auto, additional apps, and Gemini support.
