XREAL making the second Android XR headset, details in June

Android XR will see its debut on Samsung’s “Project Moohan” headset, but we’re now getting a first look at the second option, XREAL’s “Project Aura.”

Announced alongside Google’s deal with Warby Parker this week at Google I/O 2025, XREAL will be making an Android XR headset. The company’s “Project Aura” headset will be an “optical see-through” device, building on XREAL’s existing experience building “lightweight XR hardware.”

There aren’t a ton of details on what Aura will bring to the table, but the hardware looks reasonable compact, and XREAL says it will be powered by a Snapdragon XR chipset.

This collaboration also includes Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., bringing together leading innovation across hardware, silicon, and software to build the next wave of XR experiences. Project Aura uses XREAL’s proven track record in lightweight XR hardware, the Android XR software stack, and Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon^® XR chipsets optimized for spatial computing.

The company adds that “Project Aura” will be shown off in further detail in June at the Augmented World Expo, an annual event that takes place this year from June 10-12 in Long Beach, California. There’s no word on a release date, but XREAL further adds that it will share more “later this year” following today’s reveal and June’s announcements.
