Microsoft Pushes Trump to Loosen AI-Chip Export Restrictions


Microsoft urged President Donald Trump to change U.S. policy about restricting exports of the most advanced artificial-intelligence chips in a blog post Thursday. Brad Smith, Microsoft’s vice chair and president, argued that imposing limits on which countries can use American-made semiconductors to train AI models will ultimately cause U.S. allies to turn to China. Smith pointed to a Biden-era mandate called the AI Diffusion Rule, which divides other countries into three tiers.
